The foundation of the song is the baseline, which is melodically imitative in nature until the last four measures of 5/8. Clarences’ drum part reinforces it’s energetic driving fell and the eighth-note saxophone melody, which comes shortly after, provides a balanced counterpoint to the bass melody. The second section is just a series of hits and shorter melodic fragments for Clarence to play with.
