With the drum part I wanted slightly discombobulated backbeats interpolated with asymmetric micro rhythms (in between). I think it gives the music a multidimensional vibe, complexity vs. simplicity simultaneously…fast and slow…running and gliding…, But then the second section has a big release where the band drops out for a moment, creating drama and a sudden textural shift. When they come back in they play a simpler more grounded backbeat, almost like a slow-rock feel. The contrast between these two sections creates tension and release. Heightening that sense of tension and release, I scored parts for woodwinds (clarinets and flutes) and strings, putting an exclamation on climactic moments, emphasizing contrast between sections, and adding texture and color to the piece.
